The "Jeugd Luchtvaart Brigade" also known as the J.L.B. was founded during the "Aviation Day 1959" held in Curaçao on March 30 / 1959. The purpose of the J.L.B. is to give youth a better understanding of the civil and military aviation and the services related to these. While doing this the organization strives to have a harmonious development of spirit and body and works on the feeling of public responsibility and feeling of responsibility of its members
What is the main purpose of the J.L.B. ?
Aviation is one of the two means of transportation by which one can reach the islands of the Netherlands Antilles. To keep this aviation thriving a constant flow of new co-workers in this field is required. The J.L.B. contributes towards this flow by yearly recruiting 60 to 80 new members whom after their two years period with the club are much better informed about the possibilities and requirements of the aviation world in which quit some of them eventually become active participants.
Career in the J.L.B.
Once a year there is the chance for new members to join the J.L.B.. Candidates make a general aviation test to enable the best 80 to be chosen to enroll in the club. These 80 are accepted as aspirant-cadet and start a 10 week program of courses at the end of which they get an exam of all that was lectured during the past 10 weeks. Those that complete this test successfully are accepted into the club and are sworn in as cadets. From this instance they can wear the uniform with accompanying shoulder patch. When they have obtained three certificates (as mentioned in previous chapter) they get their wing in a ceremony in front of the group. Members whom show leadership, initiative and good knowledge and interest in aviation can get promotions and can stay with the club as long as they want. Ranks are as per the attached scheme. The cadets (those that do not climb in rank) stay with the club for two years and at the end of this period receive an official certificate as proof of their period with the club and mentioning their accomplishments.
